26/11 attack probe: Plotter Tahawwur Rana’s judicial custody extended; NIA files supplementary chargesheet | India News


NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Wednesday extended till August 13 the judicial custody of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana, who was extradited from the United States in April.Special judge Chander Jit Singh passed the order. The court will consider the supplementary chargesheet on August 13.On July 15, the court will hear his application seeking a telephonic call with his family.The Pakistani-Canadian national is a close associate of the main 26/11 conspirator David Coleman Headley alias Dawood Gilani, an American citizen. The former was extradited after the US Supreme Court on April 4 dismissed his review plea against the extradition.On November 26, 2008, a group of 10 Pakistani terrorists went on a rampage in Mumbai, India’s financial capital. The Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists carried out a coordinated attack on a railway station, two luxury hotels and a Jewish centre, having sneaked into the metropolis through the sea route.As many as 166 people, including foreigners, were killed in the nearly 60-hour assault, which was ended by the National Security Guard commandos. In May 2010, Ajmal Kasab, the only gunman who was captured alive, was convicted of waging war against India, and other charges. Kasab was hanged in November 2012.
